Nouns

Aspect: part of something; component
Bias: personal feeling or opinion; a slanted point of view
Claim: an argument about some aspect of the universe; a statement that addresses a testable question.
Constants/Controlled Variables (C): the parts of an experiment that are kept the same to ensure a fair test.
Controlled Investigation: an experiment in which one variable is changed (isolated) and all other variables kept the same (controlled) in order to fairly and accurately observe the effect(s) of that one change.  
Control Group (CG): the part of an experiment that receives no special treatment (no purposeful changes) to be compared with the independent variable; not every experiment has a control group. 
Counterclaim: an opposing claim or argument.
Data: qualitative and/or quantitative observations from a scientific investigation.
Dependent Variable (DV): the part of an experiment that may change in response to the changes purposely made in the independent variable; the part of an experiment that is observed and measured by the scientist throughout the experiment (responding variable).
Design Investigation: an experiment in which the design of something is changed (IV) in order to create a desired effect and/or to solve a problem. 
Empirical Evidence: observable and measurable data.
Engineering: applying scientific knowledge and skills, math, and technology to solve problems and address human needs and wants.
Evidence: relevant and sufficient data from an experiment and/or other scientists’ experiments.
Experimental Procedure: a highly detailed, replicable, step-by-step “recipe” for conducting a science experiment.
Field Investigation: an experiment in which one variable is chosen (IV) within a natural/existing environment to observe and measure how that chosen variable affects another variable (dependent variable).
Hypothesis: a tentative claim about a something in the universe based on some evidence; a predicted answer to a testable question based on some evidence; a prediction of how an independent variable will affect a dependent variable based on some evidence.
Independent Variable (IV): the part of an experiment that is changed on purpose by the scientist (manipulated variable).
Inference: a logical conclusion based on observations and prior knowledge.  
Law: a description or rule of how nature will behave under certain conditions.
Limitations: parts of an experiment that keep a scientist from producing fair and reliable data (evidence).
Model: a physical, visual, or mathematical representation used to explain some aspect of the universe.
Observation: any information gathered and recorded using the five senses or scientific tools.  
Qualitative Observation: an observation that describes the qualities of something with words, such as color, odor, texture, sound, taste, etc.
Quantitative Observation: an observation that describes the quantity (amount) or measurement of something with numbers and a unit of measurement, such as “10 feet”, or “250 grams”.
Reasoning/Scientific Reasoning: a reason based on existing scientific theories, laws, and/or models.
Sample: a smaller collection of data that represents a larger group/collection; the larger the sample, the more reliable the data.
Science: the process of understanding and explaining everything in the universe.
Scientific Explanation: a logical claim about some aspect of the universe supported by empirical evidence and scientific reasoning.
Scientific Knowledge: scientific theories, laws, and/or models; knowledge that can be tested; knowledge that can be supported with evidence and reasoning.
Scientific Method: a step-by-step method used to gather, analyze, and interpret evidence to test a tentative claim (hypothesis).
Secondary Research Investigation: an experiment that uses data (evidence) gathered by others to answer a question. 
Testable Question: a question that can be answered through measurable and observable data (empirical evidence).
Theory: a well-substantiated scientific explanation of some broader aspect of the universe that has been repeatedly tested and supported with evidence.
Trend: a general direction or pattern of how an independent variable affects a dependent variable 
Trial: an identical repeat of an experiment.
Variable: anything you can change/manipulate in an experiment.

Control: to keep in check; to keep the same
Evaluate: to judge the quality of; to critique
Interpret: to explain; to make sense/meaning of
Isolate: to separate
Model: to translate some aspect of the universe into a physical, visual, or mathematical representation.
Persevere: to push forward no matter how difficult the circumstance
Replicate: to make an exact copy
Substantiate: to prove, verify
Verify: to make sure something is true or accurate

Accurate: correct; free from error; careful
Biased: influenced by personal feelings or opinions
Cumulative: increasing by a series of additions 
Efficient: productive; not wasteful; organized; effective
Fair: trustworthy, just 
Objective: not influenced by personal feelings or opinions; based on evidence.
Precise: exact; definite 
Relevant: related to; appropriate
Reliable: fair; trustworthy; accurate
Sufficient: enough; adequate
Tentative: temporary; not tested or fully worked out
